چکیده

Gene silencing can occur either at the transcriptional level or post-transcriptional level or both. Many instances of sequence-specific silencing requires small RNAs that can be divided into two major classes: microRNAs (miRNAs) and short-interfering RNAs (siRNAs). miRNAs function in post-transcriptional gene silencing by guiding mRNA degradation or translational repression. Endogenous siRNAs are more diverse in plants than in animals and can direct post-transcriptional gene silencing through mRNA degradation or transcriptional gene silencing by triggering DNA methylation and histone modifications. This review discusses recent advances in the field of small RNAguided gene silencing in plants including rice.

A viral suppressor of RNA silencing differentially regulates the accumulation of short interfering RNAs and micro-RNAs in tobacco.

Two major classes of small noncoding RNAs have emerged as important regulators of gene expression in eukaryotes, the short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) associated with RNA silencing and endogenous micro-RNAs (miRNAs) implicated in regulation of gene expression. Helper component-proteinase (HC-Pro) is a viral protein that blocks RNA silencing in plants. Here we examine the effect of HC-Pro on the a...

Deep sequencing of small RNAs in plants: applied bioinformatics.

Small RNAs, including microRNA and short-interfering RNAs, play important roles in plants. In recent years, developments in sequencing technology have enabled the large-scale discovery of sRNAs in various cells, tissues and developmental stages and in response to various stresses. This review describes the bioinformatics challenges to analysing these large datasets of short-RNA sequences and so...

Common functions for diverse small RNAs of land plants.

Endogenous small RNAs, including microRNAs (miRNAs) and short interfering RNAs (siRNAs), are critical components of plant gene regulation. Some abundant miRNAs involved in developmental control are conserved between anciently diverged plants, while many other less-abundant miRNAs appear to have recently emerged in the Arabidopsis thaliana lineage. Using large-scale sequencing of small RNAs, we ...

Parsing the Regulatory Network between Small RNAs and Target Genes in Ethylene Pathway in Tomato

Small RNAs are a class of short non-coding endogenous RNAs that play essential roles in many biological processes. Recent studies have reported that microRNAs (miRNAs) are also involved in ethylene signaling in plants. LeERF1 is one of the ethylene response factors (ERFs) in tomato that locates in the downstream of ethylene signal transduction pathway. To elucidate the intricate regulatory role...

Endogenous and silencing-associated small RNAs in plants.

A large set of endogenous small RNAs of predominantly 21 to 24 nucleotides was identified in Arabidopsis. These small RNAs resembled micro-RNAs from animals and were similar in size to small interfering RNAs that accumulated during RNA silencing triggered by multiple types of inducers. Among the 125 sequences identified, the vast majority (90%) arose from intergenic regions, although small RNAs...
